Lawyers to unveil engineering over case of KPK chairmen

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A team of lawyers of suspended Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairmen Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra Hamzah said they planned to unveil alleged engineering of the charges for their clients.

One of the team members, Bambang Widjojanto, said at the KPK headquarters here on Thursday the team had kept some strong evidence materials to prove the engineering that led to the naming of the KPK chairmen suspects.

"The data may possibly make all the consideration used on the case be changed," he said but declined to explain further about it.

He said the data would be useful for the public to get other version of the case.

So far, he said, the public had received imbalanced information that had led them to believe that the charges were not engineered.

"The data would show if the case is real or not, or wether it is engineered," he said.

He said the team believed the data would be useful to prove that the case had been engineered."We wish to prove it," he said.

Bambang said the data would unveil everything behind the bribery and power abuse charges that had been levelled at the KPK chairmen.

On the occasion Bambang also talked about a written testimony signed by Ary Muladi and Anggodo Widjojo dated July 15, 2009 that told about the chronology of the bribery allegation.

Bambang said with the data the team hoped they could unveil stories behind the written document.

"I gave you a clue, namely the data would explain everything," he said.

Another team member, Ahmad Rifai, said earlier that the police should not have used the written testimony as the basis for declaring someone as a suspect. He said they should have verified it first before declaring someone a suspect. "This isn`t fair," he said.(*)
